XPS 200 Drivers

Does an XPS 200 require a Smartcard controller driver? I notice the entry in the directions for installing drivers, but it didn't appear in the drivers/downloads section.

The Dell specs for the XPS 200   HERE

do not mention any "smartcard" unit.  What reinstallation instructions are you looking at?  The Dell reinstall instructions are general and apply to both desktops and laptops, no distinction between the various models.

You have basically the same thing as I have in my Dimension E510 (it has the same Intel chipset and uses the same SigmaTel driver).  Reinstall the Intel Motherboard Chipset Drivers then try installing the Dell SigmaTel sound driver.

Thank you, i was viewing the instructions for the proper order to install drivers. I am also having problems with the driver for integrated sound. I install it automatically through Device Manager but IDT High Definition Audio Codec fails to install and initialize. Could this be due to improper driver installation order?

If you are using or trying to use the IDT drivers that is the problem.  You need to use the Dell SigmaTel drivers.  The IDT drivers are much newer and not compatible.

Basically the install sequence is (1) Install Windows (2) Install Desktop System Software (3) Install Motherboard (Intel) Chipset Driver (4) Install Device drivers including Video, Dell SigmaTel sound driver, Ethernet, etc.

The Chipset drivers MUST be installed BEFORE installing device drivers and are the key to a successful install.

Then i must have installed something in the wrong order as I installed the SigmaTel driver and it said the appropriate device was not present in my computer.
